Farmers honored for practices

Corvallis-area farmers Bill and Karla Chambers were honored for their leadership in sustainable farming.

Gazette-Times

Corvallis-area farmers Bill and Karla Chambers were honored by a regional sustainable agriculture organization Thursday for their leadership in the field.

The couple, who own Stahlbush Island Farms just east of Corvallis, received the inaugural Cecil D. Andrus Award from Sustainable Northwest at a banquet in Portland.

The award is named for the four-term Idaho governor and former U.S. interior secretary who founded Sustainable Northwest in 1994. The organization champions environmentally sound ways to address economic challenges.

Bill and Karla Chambers are widely recognized for the sustainable farming practices they have put in place at Stahlbush Island Farms.
