BOISE -- The Portland-based Sustainable Northwest group last night doled out its first awards named after former four-term Idaho Governor Cecil Andrus, who served as Secretary of Interior in the Carter administration.

Andrus helped found the organization that promotes sustainable development of natural resources and conservation.

Andrus is an Oregon native who rose in Idaho politics after working as a logger in Clearwater County.

At last night's awards banquet, Andrus presented his namesake award to two Oregon companies, Norm Thompson Outfitters and Stahlbush Island Farms.

Andrus said both companies have demonstrated economic success while being stewards of the environment.
