About the Zone

The Dry Forest Investment Zone consists of 15 counties across eastern Oregon and northern California that share similar socio-economic challenges such as poor market conditions for wood products, and high levels of poverty and unemployment.
The landscape of the zone is primarily dry forests of pine and mixed conifer that are at risk of fire and drought. 68% of the land is federally managed with many communities in close proximity to national forest land depending on the health and productivity of these forest landscapes.
For detailed information about the zone, please see The State of the Dry Forest Zone, produced in collaboration with our partners.
