An FSC Primer

The Forest Stewarship Council (FSC) is recognized internationally as a leading forest management certification body.  The FSC offers two types of certificates:

Forest Management (FM) - Forest Management guidelines and procedures are upheld to ensure ecologically-based management of forestland.  For a quick overview of the FSC, check out the FSC Fact Sheet.

Chain of Custody (CoC) - CoC is the market linkage tool for forest products coming from FSC-certified forests.  CoC guidelines and procedures are used throughout the entire manufacturing process of wood products thru to end-use customers.   Each link in the supply chain must maintain CoC certification for the end product to be FSC-certified.  For more info view the CoC Fact Sheet

FSC-certified forest products

Together, FM and CoC certificates assure customers that the wood used in the manufacturing process was managed responsibly (FM certificate) and that identity was maintained throughout the manufacturing process (CoC certificates).

Overheard...

“The communities of Lakeview and Paisley would not be engaged in proactive initiatives such as biomass and forest plan participation if it were not for Sustainable Northwest’s early involvement in our processes. We are indebted to SNW for their assistance and continuing partnership.”
