Yainix Ranch

The Yainix Ranch – A model for Klamath restoration

In 2002, Sustainable Northwest teamed up with an upper basin ranching family and the Klamath tribes to demonstrate how ranch profitability can be maintained, while at the same time improving riparian and wetland habitat.

Yainix Ranch is located in the Sprague River Valley, the primary contributor of degraded water in to the Klamath River system and an area that has experienced deep conflict over natural resource management in recent years.

Restoration practices pioneered at Yainix are being adopted and improved by landowners across the Basin and some lessons were incorporated into the settlement agreement.

“SNW’s continuing work on national policy issues, particularly through the Rural Voices for Conservation Coalition, is beginning to have measurable impacts in the community of Hayfork. We're beginning to achieve important community wildfire protection and forest restoration objectives while also providing work for local contractors and wood for value-added manufacturing."
