Klamath Basin Agreements Signed
The Historic Klamath Basin Agreements were signed on February 18, 2010.
After years of work of work, a broad coalition of conservationists, farmers and ranchers, Tribes, and state and federal agencies signed the two agreements that will jump start the largest river restoration project in the West.
The Klamath Basin Restoration Agreement, together with an agreement with PacifiCorp to remove four dams along the Klamath River, demonstrates how far stakeholders in the Basin have come since the infamous "water wars" of 2001, and also charts a course for how watersheds and landscapes of the West will be managed in the future.
These Agreements are good for fish and farms, and they advance restoration strategies that will create jobs, fuel economic growth while at the same time restoring rivers, guaranteeing water for wildlife refuges, and reviving what was once the third largest salmon fishery on the West Coast.
Sustainable Northwest's involvement in the project began with one project on a small ranch in the Upper Sprague Valley. Learn more about our work in in the Klamath Basin.
