What We Do

What we do

Sustainable Northwest concentrates on community-based, self-empowering initiatives that:

  • Restore and maintain ecological health,
  • Promote economic opportunities,
  • Develop and share innovative solutions,
  • Build trust in sustainable natural resource utilization, and
  • Promote public policy and institutional reforms.

We achieve our mission by delivering:

Market Driven Solutions

  • Entrepreneurs and communities across the West are proving sustainability is a viable solution for economic development and ecosystem management.
  • We encourage the development of conservation-based industries by helping producers of sustainable products access regional markets.
  • We also provide new tools that enable greater philanthropic and commercial investment in rural communities and enterprises.

Partnership Networks

  • We engage in partnerships with organizations and communities throughout the West to build local capacity, find common ground, strengthen self-reliance, and pursue projects that are economically viable and environmentally sound.
  • We maintain an ever-growing network of professionals, community leaders, public officials and others pursuing sustainable efforts and enterprises, and help translate the lessons of local sustainability into public policy and institutional reform.

Learning Opportunities

  • Publications, conferences, awards, meetings, and workshops.
  • Technical assistance and information about lessons learned by businesses, individuals, community groups, and public agencies implementing sustainability.

Overheard...

“The HFHC Partnership helped me upgrade my equipment and facility to accommodate increased production. We are developing new products and faster ways to get them made. Their help has  increased my economic outlook and is helping me provide jobs in my community.”
