RVCC American Power Act Comments

The American Power Act comments represent a coordinated effort among the RVCC working groups to present the most pressing, necessary and applicable recommendations to address climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The comments focus on how natural-resource dependent communities can be instrumental in mitigating the effects of a changing climate, as well as how rural communities can properly prepare, plan and be protected through adaptation efforts and funding.

They also outline our belief that rural communities, especially those adjacent to large areas of forest and rangelands in public and private ownership, have a significant role to play in developing and implementing mitigation and adaptation strategies.

The recommendations contained in this letter seek to strengthen and clarify specific provisions in the American Power Act, as well as any future legislative proposals addressing climate change and energy.

"In the long term, the economy and the environment are the same thing. If it's unenvironmental it is uneconomical. That is the rule of nature."
