Western Week in Washington 2009

Each year representatives from the Rural Voices for Conservation Coalition travel to Washington DC to meet with policymakers and elected officials.

April 25-30, 2009

The Rural Voices for Conservation Coalition (RVCC) went to D.C. to share our collaborative perspectives and inform our Nation's leaders about the ecological and economic challenges facing communities in the West.

This year the RVCC was represented by 19 organizations from eight western states, partners in three eastern states and the District of Columbia.  View participant bios.

 Events held during the week:

  • Networking Reception ~ Sustainable Northwest, American Forests and the Rural Assembly hosted a reception highlighting RVCC issues at Bus Boys and Poets.
  • Biomass Briefing ~ the RVCC Biomass working group hosted a meeting on the Hill to discuss thermal energy uses of woody biomass.
  • Climate Change Briefing ~ the RVCC Climate Change working group hosted a discussion about climate change policy and adaptation and mitigation in rural communities.
