Overview
News, information, and resources for leaders of the Dry Forest Investment Zone.
Sustainable Northwest is working with a number of key partners to advance sustainable forestry, economic development, and community resilience in the dry forests of eastern Oregon and northern California
The Dry Forest Zone consists of 15 counties across eastern Oregon and northern California that share similar issues such as eroded socio-economic conditions, a heightened threat to the ecological function of natural systems, and isolation from major transportation corridors and markets. Aside from the issues, the zone is also characterized by the presence of strong and innovative leaders working to ensure that their communities and ecosystems can thrive.
This five-year initiative aims to increase the health of
forested landscapes and the vitality of the rural communities,
businesses, and entrepreneurs in the Dry Forest Zone.
Our partners that make up the executive team of this effort include Wallowa Resources, The Watershed Research and Training Center, and the Ecosystem Workforce Program at the University of Oregon.
Within this website you will find resources and information regarding the work we are doing as well as ways that you yourself can have impact within the zone and in your communities. Whether you are focused on building strong communities or vibrant economies, or working to ensure that we have healthy forests, we encourage you to explore the site to learn about the program and the opportunities it may provide.
