Yakama Forest Products
About
Yakama Forest Products (YFP) contributed 20% of the wood in the glulam beams at the Portland International Airport’s new main terminal, which opened in 2024. YFP is a tribally owned sawmill operated by the Yakama Nation. It produces high-quality lumber and veneer from sustainably managed reservation lands. With 240 employees, 90% of whom are tribal members, YFP provides vital employment to the Yakama community. The company plays a key role in supporting the Yakama Nation’s economy and preserving the land for future generations.
History
Founded in the 1990s, Yakama Forest Products responded to shifting lumber markets by partnering with outside industries and launching small and large-diameter sawmills. Since 1998, YFP has grown to process millions of board feet annually while providing jobs and contributing to the local economy. The company integrates traditional tribal knowledge with modern forestry practices, supporting both environmental stewardship and community well-being.
